Bayede is Africa’s first Royal brand, endorsed by the King of the Zulu nation, King Goodwill Zwelithini. It was formed in 2008 after a fortuitous meeting between the King and two Cape-based wine growers with a view to creating lasting job opportunities in SA.
The company is increasingly becoming known for grassroots Black Economic Empowerment and job creation. Its wines are decorated with beadwork crafted by rural women from KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the Western Cape, thereby resulting in secondary job opportunities, and it is this philosophy of sharing the wealth that has seen the organisation grow so quickly.
Bayede! products include a high-quality range of wines, clothing and bed linen, leather products, handcraft, beadwork and other items. The product range has been developed with maximum job creation potential in mind.
In 2011, Bayede joined Legends and received significant direct mentoring and business support, as well as millions of Rands worth of media coverage through the programme. This support, and the hard work of the team at Bayede!, saw them almost double turnover in two years, win the Wine Hub Cup for their ‘Prince Red’ wine at the 2012 International Wine Competition in China, as well as two Silver awards at the 2012 Michelangelo International Wine Awards.
Legends has been such a great help and guidance to Bayede! Without the Legends team Bayede! would not have grown this much.
